I think we've all gathered that I'm a bit of a gamer by now, but I've not talked much about my other likes and loves. I've always, always loved films and tv (as long as it's good) and Star Trek has always been top of that list, along with James Bond. This stems from a very young age, i was maybe around six or seven and at around six or half six every wednesday night (if i've got that right) Star Trek would be on. I think i started watching the original series but i mainly grew up with TNG (The next Generation).
I've always loved the way that the series and the films build up their characters and the relationships between them, you feel like they are a family and in a weird way, when you're watching it, you feel like you're part of that. Maybe because we get to know so much about everyone and get attached to the characters we like. So if anything was to happen to one of those characters, we'd be sad about it or worried or happy depending on the situation. The series has always had the ability to make me laugh or to bring a tear to my eye depending on the storyline.
It's entirely fictional but it focuses on issues that you can find in REAL every day life. It may be set in space, on a ship or on an alien planet, but the actual issue can often be found in real life. It gets across some strong messages and isn't afraid to tell us what they think of the world as it is/was. They often refer to the 20th/21st century as savage and let's face it, it is.
If only we could get to a point like they're in during Star Trek. Not so much technologically (although that would be beyond epic!) but socially. In Star Trek, Earth has barely any if any crime, there's no poverty or starvation, everyone is equal and they live in harmony. There's no money, everyone just helps each other. It's essentially the perfect world. The only thing is, people will say that's impossible. I disagree, it's only impossible while there are greedy people who feel they need to have more or need to be better than everyone else. Unfortunately i can't see that changing, but it's definately not impossible.
Anyway besides great cast, great storylines, fantastic ships and alien races and everything else that makes Star Trek so great. I've spent many years wanting to have the films and some of the toys and props from Star Trek. Unfortunately no props yet, but i have a few cool things.

I used to have one of these when i was little but being the inquisitive kid i was, i think i took it apart and it never got put back together again! haha. I recently got this and the item i'll show next in a bundle for around £20. I'll be keeping the both of them in case they're worth something when I'm an old man!

Again this is something i used to have when i was younger, it was my favourite toy, i used to go around scanning everything and even used it when playing "armies" and stuff like that at school lol but alas, when it stopped working, that also got taken apart and never got put back together again. The problem is when you're a kid you don't realise the possible value of these things later on down the line... Anyway i managed to get another one and this one is being kept safe and not being played with (much lol)
Aside from the toys i've also managed to make one of these....

It was actually a bit harder than i expected. This is my first model kit in many years and definately the first that I wanted to keep as close to the original as i could get it. I followed the paint chart and the instructions to the letter. (other than the deflector dish, which would have looked very wrong if i stuck to the plan)
The hardest bit for me was the smaller decals and the decals that went across areas that aren't level. Some things went wrong and some things aren't quite how i would like them to be but i think i'm being overly critical of myself. I'm quite proud of my first attempt and i would definately do another sometime.
I modified the original base for the model and created my own out of a plastic electrical box, some LED's, two 9v batteries and two switches. I used the original base to fit the enterprise onto and drilled holes into it for the LED's, i then attached the base (not permanently for the moment) to the electrical box which houses the two switches, wires and batteries. One switch is to turn the lights on and off and the other is to change the lights from white to red.
